Evening Book Discussion

This month’s selection is The Children of Men by PD James. The Children of Men by P.D. James is a dystopian novel set in a future England (2021) where humanity faces extinction due to universal male sterility, with the last generation of children now adults. The story follows Oxford historian Theodore Faron, who lives in apathy until he’s drawn into a revolutionary group by a woman named Julian, who believes she might be pregnant, offering a potential hope for humanity’s survival amidst societal collapse, mass suicides, and a repressive government led by the Warden of England. The novel explores themes of despair, faith, and the meaning of life in the absence of a future, contrasting the bleak reality with the hope of a new birth. Copies are available to borrow.
